Ohio Heroes Program

Special Incentives for Special People

The State of Ohio recognizes the special contributions that some of our neighbors make every day.  You know many heroes!  They are: 

Health Care Workers:  Certified, accredited or licensed health care workers who are employed full time as a medical resident or fellow, dental hygienist, nurse, nursing assistant, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, physicians assistant, medical technician, technologist or therapist.

Law Enforcement: Individuals who are commissioned as a police officer by a federal, state, county, municipal, or township government, or a public or private college or university; must be sworn to uphold the law and make arrests for violations of federal, state, county, municipal or township laws or respond to terrorism.

Firefighters, Emergency Technicians or Paramedics: Paid members who are sworn in by a Fire Department whose regular duties include fire suppression or prevention, emergency medical response or hazardous materials response.

Teachers:  Individuals employed full time by an accredited or state recognized public or private school, federal, state, county or municipal education agency as a state-certified classroom teacher or administrator in grades K-12 or higher education.  Full-time instructors must teach a minimum of 12-credit hours per academic term.  License and pay stub from education facility required to validate credentials.

Military:  Active Duty Armed Services , Active Reserves or Veterans.  Qualified veterans include military members honorably Discharged from any Branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Ohio Heroes Program gives qualified 1st time home buyer's a .25% reduction in the already low rate offered through the OHFA Bond Program.

Other qualifying criteria include, but are not limited to, the following:

> Meet Income and Purchase Price Guidelines for the OHFA Programs.

> Must be a 1st time home buyer, unless you are buying in a "Target" area.

> Meet OHFA Credit Guidelines.
